Unboxing the MSI Strike Pro Wireless Gaming Keyboard

Introduction: A New Player on the Desk

The market for mechanical gaming keyboards has exploded in recent years. Alongside classic wired models, more and more wireless variants are establishing themselves, promising flexibility and a tidier workspace without forcing gamers to sacrifice fast response times. The MSI Strike Pro Wireless is a current model that fits precisely into this niche. With features such as tri-mode connectivity, silent switches, hot-swap support, and an impressive battery life, it aims to convince both gamers and heavy typists. But before the first rounds are played or the first texts are typed, the test begins with a classic ritual: the unboxing.

Packaging: Simple, Yet Striking

At first glance, it is clear that MSI relies on a clean, modern design for the packaging. The box is predominantly white, dominated by a large product image showing the keyboard with active RGB lighting. Right from the start, the focus is evident: this is a gaming product with customizable lighting, yet presented in a professional and organized manner.

The front highlights the key features. In addition to the model name “Strike Pro Wireless” in shimmering letters, there are two icons: the RGB lighting logo and the “Silent Sensation” symbol. The latter points to the special Kailh Midnight Pro Silent Switches built into this keyboard. A clear indication that MSI focuses not only on performance but also on noise reduction.

The back of the box (not visible in the photos) typically lists the technical specifications in several languages. Buyers can learn more about features such as tri-mode connectivity (USB-C, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth), hot-swap capability, and the high durability of the switches. Even before opening, the packaging provides a clear impression of the product’s strengths.

First Look Inside

Upon opening the lid, the keyboard is revealed, securely and professionally packaged. The keyboard body lies centered, protected by foam padding on both sides. Additionally, the surface is wrapped in a thin plastic cover to protect against scratches and dust. This first impression already conveys a sense of quality and care.

Beneath the keyboard, additional accessories can be found. These include a braided USB-C cable, a magnetic adapter for easy connection, a switch and keycap puller, as well as the magnetic wrist rest. Everything is neatly arranged to prevent shifting during transport. Anyone unboxing the keyboard for the first time will immediately notice MSI’s commitment to providing a complete and well-thought-out package.

Scope of Delivery in Detail

  • MSI Strike Pro Wireless Keyboard (Full-size, German layout in the review model)
  • Braided USB-C cable (approx. 2 m) for wired use or charging
  • Magnetic USB-C adapter for easier connection
  • Switch and keycap puller for hot-swap support
  • Magnetic wrist rest made of memory foam
  • Quick-start guide and warranty information

Notably, MSI does not cut corners here. Many manufacturers only include a charging cable, but the additional tools and high-quality wrist rest significantly round out the overall package.

Design: Robust Elegance

The MSI Strike Pro Wireless is a full-size keyboard with 104 keys (or 105 in the German layout). It offers not only the classic letter and function keys but also a complete numpad. The case measures approximately 443 × 150 × 41 mm and weighs about 1.2 kg. This makes it heavy enough to remain stable on the desk, yet still portable enough to be carried around.

Visually, the case looks sleek and functional. Black plastic with a matte finish ensures a professional appearance, while the RGB lighting can transform the keyboard into a colorful spectacle if desired. On the top, in addition to the standard keys, there are three macro keys, a multifunctional scroll wheel, and additional media buttons. The latter in particular is a highlight, making daily use much more convenient.

The underside is equally practical: two fold-out feet, several rubberized areas for slip resistance, and a clear label with model name and technical details. No unnecessary gimmicks here—just a practical, user-focused design.

Controls and Ergonomics

On the left side of the keyboard is a toggle switch to select the connection mode: Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, or cable. Next to it is the power switch. On the right side is the magnetic USB-C port, which, in combination with the included adapter, provides high convenience. Unlike traditional ports, the plug almost snaps into place by itself.

A special highlight is the Smart Scroll Wheel located above the F-keys on the right. It allows for quick control of volume or display brightness. Below it are extra media control buttons. In gaming practice, this means adjusting music or stopping videos without inconveniently switching programs.

The included wrist rest is another plus. Made from memory foam, it attaches magnetically to the keyboard and significantly improves comfort during long sessions. The foam adapts to the wrists and reduces pressure points.

Technical Features at a Glance

Switches

Inside the Strike Pro Wireless are Kailh Midnight Pro Silent Tactile Switches. These switches feature an actuation force of around 45 g and provide a quiet, dampened keystroke. Their durability is rated at around 70 million keystrokes—well above average. For heavy typists, this means a long-lasting and quiet typing experience.

Hot-Swap Function

The keyboard supports 5-pin hot-swap, allowing switches to be changed without soldering. This appeals not only to gamers but also to enthusiasts who enjoy experimenting with different switches or easily replacing faulty ones.

Lighting

As expected from a gaming keyboard, the Strike Pro Wireless is equipped with per-key RGB lighting. Using MSI software, each key can be individually customized. The keyboard is also compatible with Mystic Light, enabling synchronization with other MSI components.

Damping & Structure

The case uses a gasket-mount design with multi-layer sound damping. This construction ensures a pleasantly quiet typing feel and prevents disruptive echoing. Particularly in shared environments, this is a clear advantage.

Connectivity

The Strike Pro Wireless supports three modes:

  1. USB-C wired mode (with the included cable)
  2. 2.4 GHz wireless via a low-latency dongle
  3. Bluetooth for maximum flexibility (e.g., with laptops or tablets)

Switching between modes is quick and easy via the side toggle switch.

Battery

A major highlight is the built-in 4,200 mAh lithium-ion battery. According to the manufacturer, it offers up to 1,500 hours of use in Bluetooth mode without lighting. Even with RGB lighting active, several days of continuous use are possible. Charging takes around seven hours but can easily be done while the keyboard is in use.

Layout & Keys

The keyboard supports full N-key rollover and anti-ghosting. This ensures that all keystrokes are accurately registered, even when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously—essential for fast-paced gaming. The keycaps are made of dye-sub PBT, making them more resistant to wear than traditional ABS caps.

Everyday Use: First Impressions

Right out of the box, it becomes clear that MSI had more than just gamers in mind. The combination of silent switches, hot-swap support, and an ergonomic wrist rest also appeals to heavy typists. At the same time, tri-mode connectivity, long battery life, and media controls offer everyday flexibility. Whether at the desk or on the go, the Strike Pro Wireless presents itself as a well-rounded all-purpose model.

Packaging and Accessories in Context

Compared to other high-end gaming keyboards, the extensive accessories included with the MSI Strike Pro Wireless stand out positively. Many manufacturers omit hot-swap tools or provide only a simple plastic wrist rest. MSI, however, takes the opposite approach, delivering a complete and premium package. The magnetic USB-C adapter in particular is an innovation that genuinely simplifies everyday use—a detail often missing in other keyboards.
