First Impressions: Focus Instead of a Product Showcase
The Paper Pro Move follows a very different philosophy from conventional tablets right from the moment it is unboxed. While many manufacturers rely on oversized product images, glossy finishes, and lengthy feature lists to attract attention, reMarkable focuses entirely on the essentials. The two boxes containing the Paper Pro Move and the Book Folio feel remarkably understated. Clean white surfaces, subtle line drawings, and carefully balanced typography define the overall presentation. Nothing is designed to demand attention. Instead, the packaging immediately conveys the impression of a professional productivity tool.
What stands out most is the visual consistency. Even before opening the boxes, the tablet and the Book Folio appear to be parts of a single system rather than separate products. That design philosophy carries through the entire product experience.

The Book Folio: Protection Through Engineering Rather Than Bulk
The Book Folio arrives in surprisingly compact packaging. Once opened, the cover rests securely inside a precisely fitted cardboard insert, protected by paper instead of plastic. This immediately reflects reMarkable’s preference for functional packaging over unnecessary presentation.
Inside, there is no rigid plastic frame. Instead, several carefully positioned magnets secure the tablet in place. This creates a considerably more elegant solution than traditional tablet cases. The device is never clipped into position but instead held almost invisibly, allowing the entire folio to remain exceptionally slim.
The exterior material also leaves an excellent first impression. Its woven textile finish features a refined texture, feels premium, and significantly improves grip. Fingerprints are barely noticeable, while everyday wear is likely to remain far less visible than on synthetic leather or smooth plastic surfaces.

The Paper Pro Move Shows Its Priorities
The tablet itself is just as minimalist as its packaging. After opening the box, the matte protective film immediately draws attention, already revealing the display’s distinctive paper-like surface underneath. Unlike conventional tablets, the screen reflects very little ambient light. This paper-inspired texture remains one of the strongest defining characteristics of the entire reMarkable product family.
The aluminum chassis demonstrates exceptional manufacturing precision. Slim bezels surround the display, interrupted only by the wider grip section along one side, which later accommodates the Marker Plus. This asymmetrical design serves several practical purposes at once. It improves ergonomics, integrates the stylus naturally into the overall design, and provides a more comfortable grip during extended writing sessions.

The Package Includes Everything That Matters
Once the tablet has been removed, the remaining accessories become visible. The Marker Plus, USB-C cable, replacement tips, and documentation are all stored in dedicated compartments within the box. Loose accessories are nowhere to be found.
The Marker Plus immediately stands out as one of the highlights. Its aluminum construction matches the premium feel of the tablet itself. Rather than resembling a conventional digital stylus, its shape feels much closer to a high-quality writing instrument. Buttons and unnecessary controls have been intentionally omitted. Only the flattened side reveals its function as the magnetic attachment surface.
The included replacement tips further reinforce the long-term design philosophy behind the system. The display surface deliberately creates friction to replicate the natural sensation of writing on paper. This inevitably results in gradual tip wear, making simple tip replacement a far more practical solution than replacing the entire stylus.

Small Details That Make a Big Difference
Closer inspection reveals numerous subtle engineering details. The CNC-machined aluminum edges feature perfectly consistent radii, making the device exceptionally comfortable to hold. The USB-C port is precisely integrated into the frame and blends seamlessly into the chassis. The transition between the display and the aluminum housing is equally precise. Uneven gaps or inconsistent tolerances are virtually impossible to find.
The textile exterior of the Book Folio is just as impressive. Rather than resembling a traditional electronics case, it feels much closer to a premium hardcover notebook. That association appears entirely intentional and perfectly matches the overall identity of the product.

Front Light Expands Everyday Usability
One of the most important improvements is not immediately obvious. Its true value becomes apparent only in darker environments. The integrated front light allows comfortable note-taking even when ambient lighting is limited.
This significantly expands the situations in which the Paper Pro Move can be used. Taking notes during an evening train journey, writing reports in dimly lit meeting rooms, or sketching ideas during a flight all become possible without relying on an external light source. The illumination remains evenly distributed across the display while preserving the paper-like writing experience that defines the reMarkable ecosystem.

Designed for Mobile Work?
A reliable assessment of this particular use case was not possible during the loan period. While the compact form factor, lightweight construction, integrated front light, and excellent writing experience strongly suggest that the Paper Pro Move was designed with mobile professionals in mind, it would not be responsible to confirm that impression after such a short evaluation period. Determining how well the device performs during weeks or even months of daily use would require a considerably longer review period.

Verdict
This review should be considered a preliminary first impression. The available evaluation period of just a few days was barely sufficient to assess the overall construction, material quality, craftsmanship, writing experience, and general direction of the reMarkable Paper Pro Move. It was far too short to provide reliable conclusions regarding long-term use. Areas such as battery longevity, display durability, Marker tip wear, and everyday reliability over several weeks or months simply could not be evaluated responsibly.
Even after only a few days, however, a clear picture begins to emerge. The reMarkable Paper Pro Move consistently follows the same philosophy as the rest of the product family. Its more compact form factor makes it even easier to carry than the standard Paper Pro, making it particularly attractive for professionals who frequently move between meetings, customer sites, construction projects, or multiple workplaces throughout the day.
The integrated front light noticeably expands its range of use. Notes can now be captured comfortably even in darker environments without sacrificing the display’s signature paper-like appearance. The writing experience quickly establishes itself as one of the strongest aspects of the entire system, delivering a level of precision that conventional tablets rarely achieve.
One drawback nevertheless remains. For a device specifically designed for mobility, an official IP rating for dust and water resistance would have been a valuable addition. Professionals working outdoors or in changing weather conditions would certainly benefit from the additional protection.
A final overall judgment would simply not be appropriate after only three days. Only several weeks—or ideally several months—of continuous use could demonstrate how the Paper Pro Move performs under real working conditions, how durable its materials truly are, and how the overall experience develops over time. Until then, this review remains a well-founded first impression—and that first impression is decidedly positive. The Paper Pro Move leaves the impression of a carefully engineered productivity tool. At this stage, no more—and no less—can be said.
