Assembly

The assembly of the microphone is quick and easy. In the first step, the arm is attached to the base plate. Then, the microphone holder is mounted onto the arm. One side of the holder features a mechanism for attaching the pop filter. The Streamer USB microphone is now inserted into the center of the holder and secured with screws. The USB cable is plugged into the microphone, while the other end is connected to a laptop or PC via the USB-A port.

Test environment

For our tests, we used the Streamer USB microphone with an Apple MacBook Air. The device was instantly recognized and ready to use without any further configuration required.

Quality

The recording quality of the Streamer USB microphone was excellent. The pop filter proved to be a reliable filter for most harsh consonants. During a video conference, the user’s speech was clearly intelligible as the disruptive syllables such as „K“ or „P“ were mostly eliminated. Once the microphone was properly configured in both the operating system and recording software like Audacity, it only captured the speaker’s voice. Background noises were rarely picked up.

Thanks to the convenient button located on the top part of the microphone, it could be quickly and easily muted when needed. Additionally, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a volume control on the side. The headphone jack allows for connecting a headset, while the volume control manages the recording volume. This gives the speaker the ability to control their own volume and monitor what is being captured by the streaming microphone.

Conclusion

In summary, the Streamer USB microphone by Sandberg proved to be a reliable and high-quality microphone for various purposes. Its quick and easy setup, along with its compatibility with devices such as the Apple MacBook Air, made it convenient to use. The recording quality was excellent, with the pop filter effectively reducing harsh consonants and background noise. The microphone’s mute button, headphone jack, and volume control added to its user-friendly features, allowing for convenient control and monitoring during recordings or streaming sessions. Overall, the Streamer USB microphone provided a satisfying experience and met our expectations in terms of performance and functionality.

Based on our tests and at a street price of approximately 70 Euros (as of June 2023), we highly recommend the Streamer USB microphone. It offers useful features for streamers, podcasters, office users, and more, with all controls easily accessible. During our testing, the top mute button responded reliably, and the speaker could clearly hear themselves during monitoring and adjust settings accordingly. The side-mounted headphone jack is well-positioned and easily reachable.

The only recommendation we have is for potential buyers to also consider purchasing a desk-mounted arm to hang the microphone. This helps avoid resonances caused by actions like moving the keyboard across the desk or resting arms on the surface. When using a suspension arm, we did not experience these issues. Overall, we can recommend the use of a mounting arm.
