Unboxing: Cougar OmnyX – A Case for Visionaries

Introduction: The First Encounter

There are moments when you immediately sense, just by looking at a package, that something special awaits inside. When the massive 16.7-kilogram box of the Cougar OmnyX stood in front of me, it was clear: this is no ordinary PC case. The inscription “Your Build. Your Vision. Any Side You Like.” already hinted that Cougar wants to deliver more than just a traditional tower – this is meant to be a stage for ambitious PC enthusiasts.

“Architecture is frozen music,” Goethe once wrote. And that’s exactly how this first encounter feels: a symphony of steel, glass, and ideas, frozen in a sharp-edged yet elegant box.

Packaging & Safety: The Way Inside

The outer packaging is robust, kept simple in brown but decorated with clear technical drawings. The front and back show not only the product itself but also the dimensions (520 × 300 × 470 mm) and notes about the tempered glass panels. A bold sticker with “CAUTION: HEAVY!” already warns about the weight.

The inside is classic yet well thought out: Styrofoam frames hold the case securely in place, while a plastic wrap protects the sensitive glass panels. As soon as you lift the chassis out, it becomes clear: Cougar is serious here – the OmnyX is a statement piece, not a lightweight.

First Impression: Massive, Minimalist, Monumental

After removing the protective film, the OmnyX stands in all its glory. The front is dominated by a large mesh panel, behind which two massive 160 mm fans loom. The look is uncompromising: angular, modern, and free from playful accents.

This case does not feel like a mere container for hardware, but more like a stage that showcases it. A design that merges “weight” and “precision” – almost as if a piece of industrial architecture had found its way into your living room.

Exterior Design: Clarity through Symmetry

The OmnyX follows a symmetrical design approach. Both sides are equipped with large tinted tempered glass panels. This allows you to freely decide which side will later become the showpiece. A bold but clever design choice, giving builders the freedom to choose their perspective.

The front is highly functional: a wide mesh for maximum airflow, rounded off by a subtle Cougar logo. The lower section houses the I/O panel – unusually low, but conveniently accessible.

Front I/O: Connectivity Deluxe

A quick look at the front panel immediately shows: Cougar understands the needs of modern systems.

  • 4 × USB 3.0 (Type A) – highlighted in bright orange
  • 2 × USB 3.1 Type C
  • 1 × 3.5 mm audio jack (headset combo)
  • 1 × Reset/RGB button
  • 1 × Power button

This sets new standards in accessibility. Especially noteworthy: the USB-C port, which has become essential for many users.

Interior: Space Where Others Are Cramped

Opening the glass side panels reveals the true potential. The interior is spacious, almost monumental. The modular layout immediately stands out:

  • Support for motherboards up to E-ATX
  • Two-chamber layout – upper section for motherboard, GPUs, and coolers; lower section for PSU and cable management.
  • Pre-installed fans: Four Cougar CGR160-FB (160 mm) fans provide airflow out of the box.

The fans are not only large but also visually striking. Their white-translucent blades already suggest how impressive the lighting effects will be later on.

Cooling & Airflow: A Paradise for Airflow Enthusiasts

Cougar clearly positions the OmnyX as an airflow case. The default setup with its massive 160 mm fans already shows the focus on volume and pressure.

Supported options:

  • Front: up to 3 × 140 mm or 2 × 200 mm
  • Top: up to 3 × 120/140 mm
  • Rear: 1 × 120/140 mm
  • Radiators: up to 420 mm

The mesh design on the front, top, and bottom ensures unobstructed airflow. A continuous dust filter keeps dirt out of the system.

Cable Management: Order in the Chaos

The rear side of the case reveals numerous cutouts and Velcro straps. A pre-installed hub makes connecting the fans easier. Cougar clearly understands that clean cable management is not only an aesthetic choice but also critical for airflow.

Especially well-executed: the generous spacing and clearly separated chambers. Even thick cable bundles can be routed elegantly here.

Expansion & Flexibility

The OmnyX offers plenty of room for drives and expansions:

  • 2 × 3.5″ HDDs
  • 4 × 2.5″ SSDs
  • 8 expansion slots

This makes it suitable for multi-GPU setups or larger PCIe cards. Combined with the glass panels, it’s particularly appealing for modders who want to showcase their builds.

Build Quality & Craftsmanship

All edges are neatly deburred, the coating is uniform and matte. The tempered glass panels feel sturdy and premium. Despite its large size, the case remains rigid and solid – a clear plus in terms of build quality.

“Quality means that the customer comes back, not the product.” This quote by Hermann Tietz fits perfectly here. Every touch conveys that Cougar prioritized durability and tactile quality.

Accessories & Manual

The box includes:

  • A multilingual manual with clear diagrams
  • Screws in sufficient quantity
  • Cable ties for neat cable management
  • Small mounting clips

The manual is simple but effective. Especially beginners will appreciate the exploded diagrams that make assembly easier.

Pro Tip for Building

During the first test installation, it becomes clear: the massive fans take up quite some space, so radiator compatibility should be checked carefully. However, for those planning an air-cooled build, the OmnyX offers a true paradise.

Conclusion: A Stage for Visionaries

The Cougar OmnyX is not a case for minimalists. It is a stage for hardware enthusiasts who want to use their PC not only as a tool but also as a showcase piece.

Pros:

  • Massive interior with lots of flexibility
  • Four large fans pre-installed
  • Dual-glass design for flexible orientation
  • Outstanding I/O panel with many ports
  • High-quality craftsmanship

Cons:

  • Heavy weight (16.7 kg empty)
  • Very large – not suitable for small desks
  • Radiator space limited by 160 mm fans

In the end, this is not just a case to protect hardware but one that puts it in the spotlight. Anyone looking for “more” – more space, more airflow, more show – will find their perfect home in the OmnyX.
